Why this page exists
Ever tried to figure out where your money went by scrolling back through months of transactions on a bank app, squinting at merchant codes, and manually tallying up totals in your head? That's not analysis โ that's punishment. Upload your CSV here and Meridian does the hard yaka: categorises every transaction, totals it up, and hands it back to you as something you can actually read.
Getting the file from your bank
Every bank is slightly different. Click 'How to export from your bank' just below the upload area for a step-by-step walkthrough for NAB, CBA, ANZ, ING, Westpac, and Amex โ including the exact menus and gotchas for each one.
Credit cards & flip signs
Most Aussie banks export credit card charges as negative numbers โ leave 'flip signs' unchecked and Meridian handles it. Amex is the exception: their exports come through as positive, so tick 'flip signs' for Amex files. If your spending totals look wildly wrong after upload, this is the first thing to check.
Re-uploading is always safe
Already imported January and want to add February without starting over? Just upload the new file on top. Meridian fingerprints every transaction and silently skips anything it's already seen โ no duplicates, no drama.
Correcting a category
Meridian put your Uber Eats under Transport instead of Dining. Happens โ merchant codes aren't always obvious. Click the category pill on any row and reassign it. Do it a handful of times for the same merchant and Meridian quietly learns the pattern so you won't have to fix it again.
Export for your accountant
Tax time coming up? Hit 'Export CSV' in the transaction toolbar to pull a clean, filtered extract โ filter by date range, category, or account first. Your accountant will appreciate not having to work from 12 separate bank PDF statements.
Low-confidence transactions
When Meridian isn't sure about a categorisation โ say, a merchant code that could be dining or a work lunch โ it flags the transaction for review. You'll see an orange badge in the nav bar with the count. On this page, use the 'Needs review' filter chip to see only those transactions. Confirming or correcting them takes seconds and improves accuracy on future uploads.
Teaching Meridian your patterns
Tick 'Remember this rule' on any transaction before saving a category correction. Meridian stores the pattern โ next time that merchant appears in any uploaded file, it automatically applies the same category. A few corrections in the first week, then the uploads mostly look after themselves.
Email auto-import
Tired of manually downloading CSVs? Set up your personal Meridian docs address in Settings โ Email Auto-Import, then create a forwarding rule in Gmail or Outlook for each bank. Statements land and get processed automatically โ same parsing, same dedup, no manual download. Historical statements forwarded in bulk are handled safely โ already-imported transactions are silently skipped.
